Lessons Learned From Drunk People
Well, its really been ages since I've been to a "college party". Why? Well, they just aren't me. Typically a lot of people (I'm fiarly shy in crowds), tons of alcohol (I've strong opinions on when how how drinking should occur), stupid conversation relating to sports or "F--- so-and-so") and occasionally cops. Went to one tonight (only 'cause I knew the girl throwing it) and enjoyed myself.
First guy I met right inside the door led down a good hour long conversation about everything from the area I grew up in (he had an uncle there) to ebonics and its part in American English (its a dialect people, don't care what ya say... you study it and you'll realize the same). I actually started the conversation with a snide comment assuming boring drunk-talk.... glad I was wrong on that one.
After that I got dragged into a conversation with another guy who kinda seemed stereotypical to me. Again, dead wrong when the subject turned to obscure computer games *grin*. Now THAT'S drinking talk. Thinking about the good old days (Quake LAN parties, if you must know)... man, great conversation.
Finally I met this really cool girl who I thought was a wee bit drunk. Well, after she was able to name all the video games that influenced her dreams recently, and explain exactly how to exploit certain games without cheat codes, I didn't care how much she had to drink. It was an awesome conversation about everything from FF3 to Tomb Raider. Game strategies to exploits to personal goals for different games. Fun times...
3 hours later I rolled out as it got really cold, and I just had my hoody, thinking that I really shouldn't assume I know every party on campus from the cruddy ones I saw my freshman year. I enjoyed myself, found conversations in subjects I know something about and don't consist of curse words and the names of sports players that screwed up this week, and think I may've come up with a solution to a coding issue I've had for a few days now during those three hours. All around, a good night!
Edit: As I write this there's a group of guys yelling four letter words walking down the middle of the street outside my apartment... glad to see some stereotypes still hold.
